This bronze plaquette was found in a ditch in Waihi several years ago. It was recently brought to the Waihi Museum.
It is a memorial plaque that was given to the families of soldiers who had died in WWI.
Although we know that the family came from the Marlborough Sounds, we have not been able to find any relatives of this family. The Museum would like to locate a legitimate family member so that the item can be returned. Currently this plaque is on show in our social history room.
Note: The Deadman's Penny is actually 150mm (6 inches) in diameter!
