New Technology to Aid Museum Researchers
Posted by WACMA on 21/07/2012
The latest acquisition for our Research Department is a Scanpro machine which can scan microfilm and microfiche and then word search to find particular topics or names.
The film or fiche is loaded onto the machine and images of old newspapers or wage books can be transferred to a computer where the image can be ‘cleaned’. This will make the task of searching a lot easier and clearer for our research people. The purchase of the Scanpro was funded in part by the Valder Ohinemuri Trust and WACMA’s own funds.
The new machine is getting plenty of use as the family history requests continue to come in as interest in local history and genealogy increases.
